HAPPY FASHION

Can you tell I am obsessed with creative handbag designs and multicolour outcomes. Painters palette design is so original and it discovers the qualities and nuances of colours. It is easy with this fun project to be a promoter of the movement of happy artistic manifestation of self made fashion scene. I have already created a painter palette bag, but this time around I made it into a clutch bag slash purse. So little “picassos” & “rembrandts” gather around cos’ we’re gonna paint!

I got a great source of buzz and inspiration from one of my favourite Spanish designers Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, when seeing her fashion lines and designs there is an immediate transformation, because it takes you through to another world, which you just can not love - it’s playful, colourful, transformative.

She has been sourcing anywhere between Pop Art through impressionist painters wrapping her creations and visionaries around her admiration for colours. Many of her outfits can make you feel alive, giggle and fill you up with energy as it seeks for our child like inner self that wants to invite us to play. After seeing her painters palette scarf got me so excited to find ways to come up how could I include this design into my wardrobe.

Recently written about why I think every beginner sewist should store up plenty of felt fabric, which is excellent on its own to anyone, but even so for beginners! It’s nearly impossible to go wrong with sewing felt projects, they come out exactly as I plan them, it is versatile, sturdy, easy to handle and can even be perfect for no -sew project if you don’t have your sewing machine at hand.

As the colour spectrum also excellent - which is an important piece of informations for any colour addicts - you will get hooked as there are eye-popping colours in felt.

When I draw my sketch immediately thought of thicker felt. I needed a fabric that is thick and firm-textured. Thicker felt keeps its shape and also is proven to be sturdy enough for a handbag.

SUPPLIES YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR OWN ARTIST PALETTE CLUTCH OR PURSE:

  • 3 mm thick felt fabric

  • 1 mm thick felt fabric in 11 different colours

  • Brushes  - 1 or 2  for the decor

  • Scissors

  • Felt glue or Sewing Machine

  • Iron on motto - optional*

Instructions:

  1. Cut out two pieces of artist palette from the thick felt, mine is 30cm in its widest and 20cm tall.

  2. In both palette cut an oval shaped hole for the handle

  3. Cut out all the colours. I cut them circa 1,5 “ in size.

  4. Glue the colours and the brushes to the palette.

  5. Glue or sew if you have your machine at hand the two sides of palette together, also around the small mid hole, keeping the top bit open for about 15 cm section where the velcro needs to be glued/joined, make sure the two sides of the tape glued to each of the palette and its secure. If you glue it let it sit and dry.
