I love AQUA - Spice it up with colours

FOR THE LOVE OF COLORS!

Colours are one of the most evocative elements of fashion. They are often the first detail people will notice about an outfit, they can communicate a personality, and even have the ability to change the impression and emotion of those around you. Colours were even shown to affect heart and respiration rates. Such studies of colour, known as colour psychology, have long been both established and applied to fashion, leading to many designs and trends occurring in popular culture.

Within my own work, colours are especially important and are a source of constant inspiration. They can summon images of nature and powerful emotions, which is something I try to focus on when creating and designing clothing. This is why I thought it would be interesting to share my experiences with colours, both as individual topics and as a whole, how they affect my creativity and how I experience them.

So, to start with, I thought I would talk about two of my favourite colours. Yellow & Aqua blue.

There are so many words to describe the colour of tropical water, which, while most often spread across the spectrum of blue, can even appear as something close to mint green. Turquoise and celeste are two wonderful terms that tend to be used when describing such a colour, but I settle on aqua because it most clearly tells of the personal association I have with it.

In colour psychology, aqua blue is an uplifting colour of tranquillity and balance, one that brings me a sense of clarity. It is a cool and calming colour that rejuvenates my mind. Aqua blue can also feel very playful and I am very fond of using it on garments that flow in the breeze. I’m always excited to find any piece of aqua blue material, especially when upcycling old clothes because it never fails to make me feel hopeful.

Interesting

Aquamarine, the precious half-gem stone got its name from the bluish - greenish colours of aqua marinas. Sailers and mermaid used to treat it a special treasure and worn aqua amulets for protection. Today aqua colour is the symbol of intelligence, youthfulness & friendship and apparently can guard against gossip!
