HOW TO MAKE AN ABSTRACT PAINTING IF YOU HAVE NEVER PAINTED BEFORE
I was writing about why creativity improves life earlier in a blog post, as studies shows when our mind focusing on one thing and we are in Flow, all at the same time some magic happens. We feel less tired, less irritated and start to feel recharged. Oftentimes, when it comes to finding peace through creativity most people think of art as a solution and as an interesting hobby that is so off the beaten track, therefore would be so exciting to try out.
Painting is a great way indeed, but most of us feel discourage and a bit intimidated by the fact not having a qualification or because never grabbed a brush before, maybe draw an apple in school where this story ends. It was similar to me, painting has never been in my focus, but I do love colours. I would like to show you a few tips that it is indeed a way to go and such a fun way to spice up your walls and add instant color and freshness to your space!
I was admiring eclectic designs, highly artistic modern abstract impressions paintings on Etsy when this brilliant idea came. They are soo colorful, so bright and it is just a perfect way to showcase all of your favourite shades on one picture, if not all of the colors in your color palette.
I wanted to create something similar, and since the genre is abstract means anything goes - or at least that is how I interpret :)
If you plan buying art, go for it and support other artists, perhaps look around in your local community see if there are people with a passion for it. I like the change of scenery and probably this painting will be coming on and off of my wall, I figured it would be best just to create an art piece myself.
Abstract Painting DIY for nubes
I wanted to create vibrance with pastel dominance, a bit movement and spontaneity with a little structure so I used geometrical shapes but with no perfection by all means.
Abstract is all about freedom, free use of colors, shapes presenting visual elements taken from reality in a simplified or reorganised way. I think I have nailed it, except I didn’t have anything in mind when I was painting. Got a canvas and just started making splashes and line, repainted them, repeat again so I followed no concept.
It has a degree of independence and leave to everyone’s visual interpretation what can be seen, but for sure it looks awesome on any walls!
I highly recommend this type of art if you are thinking expressing your long lost artist in you through a home made DIY painting. You can also consider other techniques suitable for beginners or anyone who never painted before.
Start splashing colors with a huge brush, or you can go with the paint splatter way for other kinds of effect.
What is Paint Splatter Art?
Paint splatter is a messy thing but it is kind of the whole point of it. It is focusing on a stress free, very creative outlet where you can let your creative energy being expressed. You don’t need anything else, then paint and brush, a canvas, wall or even one of your clothing which you are planning to customise, and with this technique lots of movement and emotion can be articulated.
I got also popular as action painting throughout the 1940s during the abstract expressionist art movement. Luckily it doesn’t require any formal training, so it makes it perfect to start off for any chronic DIY-er wants to have a try on the path of visual art, it celebrates spontaneity, improvisation in a dynamic and physical approach making an art.
What Kind of Paint Do I Need?
You can use any type of paint for paint splatter art or abstract ones, I found acrylic paint is pretty easy to work with. Acrylic paints are inexpensive, come in a wide variety of colors, and mess can be cleaned up easily. I have also used tempera paint and watercolour as well, however they tend to come across a bit softer than acrylics. When it is about painting get water ready close to you as you may never know how much paint-water ratio you need to work with to reach the desired visual effect.
What Kind and Size Paint Brushes Work Well for Paint Splatter Art?
As I was doing my research I have found surprising things you can make your painting with, like toothbrushes.. I suppose with a brand new one ? haha and for example a piece of aluminium foil or with an object, like a spoon.
They can add to the dramatic effect and can make interesting looking art. For splatter paint different sizes and types of brushes will produce different paint splatter effects.
I have only used plain traditional brushes ..and comparing to above it’s a bit boring.
