EXPRESS YOURSELF CUSTOM TYPOGRAPHY FASHION COLLAR DIY
A few seasons ago I saw a dazzling pair of flats from Jeremy Campbell, a plain black pair embellished with metallic golden letters all around it, just looked perfect and something different. Ever since I pay a little more attention to typography and alphabet inspired fashion and collected some craft tools involving letters and learnt there are plenty of potentials with them.
It is (coco) nuts how much creative project and embellishments can come out of texting, words, thought, motivational quotes or just letters. I love typography, and projects involving text and words… Sometimes it is better things to be said like this.
Bunch of opportunity with customisation, you can add slogans and expressions or just throw letters and express your love for speaking and being a super creative word smith. The great part is that any letter design can be harmonise to any color scheme to make it appropriate.
Into Mexican food ? Then TACOS, TEQUILA, love travelling then DALLAS, PARIS or just go with the universally great words like PUPPIES, RAINBOW, CAKE, LOL & FUN. Or make it Festivals Season appropriate for Xmas & Valentines with uplifting words for example. Let me know what words you made?
You can substitute word puzzles with framed wall art. If you have a collection of happy, uplifting words then create a mood cheering word cloud and place it on your bare wall or on your work desk.
I have made a few DIY including typography, for example this XO letter wall vase DIY, what else could be more heart warming than greeting someone with a hug and a kiss with a practical pop of color on the wall?
On another DIY clothes project I simply cut out felt letters and made slogan to a Mood Lifting Balloon shirt. And perhaps my most favourite HEY saying slogan mini belt bags with individual letters serving as mini purses, not only sparkling through the night but also wearable, practical and cute fashion accessory.
So home decor isn’t the only area where DIY projects with texts and words can dominate but there are also plenty of unusual clothes DIY ideas, for example you can form word out of ribbons and sew them on your clothes, or perhaps using up all of your fabric scraps and textile leftovers from other projects to design messages or a monogrammed gift.
Now, that I have told you all the perks and quirks why it’s amazing to spice up your old clothes with typography inspired fashion let me show you how extremely easy it is. It’s a no-sew fashion project. Originally I wanted to buy alphabet letter buttons but it was out of stock which led me go for the mini wooden scrapbooking letters instead. Worked perfect, see what you need:
MATERIALS TO MAKE YOUR OWN DIY TYPOGRAPHY CUSTOMISED SHIRT COLLAR FASHION ACCESSORY:
recycle any shirts collar & cuffs for more flexibility, alternatively you can just refashion any of your existing old shirts without cutting it off
approx 0.75”- 0.75” tall scrapbooking letters, you can use buttons they look super cute too
super glue I used this one is suitable for rhinestones
The process is straight forward, measure the letters on your collar, cuff or wherever you plan to add them, play with them a little how they would look better. Loosen them up or make them hectic, change around the order so the colors could dominate better and to your likes and glue them on. With this glue of course the wait is at least 24 hours to be sure, it means sadly there is a wait before you can get your hands on these super colorful text inspired fashion accessories to spice up your closet.
