MATERIALS YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR CRYSTAL STUDDED CLEAR VINYL RAIN COAT DIY

  • clear vinyl trench coat/jacket/boots/belt…

  • around 400-600 pieces of crystal rivets in 4mm, 5mm, 6mm sizes mixed gold and silver and all available colors!

  • wooden board

  • a piece of fabric for layering for buffer

  • mini hammer

  • one piece of board pin

Not going to lie it does take long applying the studs if you want to make it full on effect and being rich with crystals, you need to get the tiny pin first to create a tiny hole then hammering in all the crystals. as you see on the pic mine is half done, it still looks fairly decorated and a bit scarce still as am having a rest in between session as I got bored with the process but approaching darker nights, Xmas and NY eve this rain trench is super stylish and glittery so a perfect DIY to finish it off now.

You can also try to just get rhinestones and attach them on with super glue, however my trench coat is super shiny therefore the surface didn’t allow them to stay. :( that would have been a bit faster process I feel. Since vinyl fabrics can differ I encourage you to test and try, once apply a few and wait at least 24 hrs before trying to pull them off as a test run, if you try sooner it might won’t actually work.

INTRUCTIONS:

Set up your space by placing a wooden board on a desk then layer a thicker fabric on the board which serves as buffering. Create a hole by spiking a hole in the vinyl with the tiny pin, then grab the top part of the rivet and push it through then add the bottom part till it pops to fix them together. Now because of the nature of the fabric since it isn’t thick and how rivets are working we have to make them stay together. Place that part of your coat on the board make sure there is enough fabric coverage below and above the fabric with enough buffering as well so the hammering won’t damage the rivets and the crystals then hit gently a few times on the just applied crystal studs. And repeat is 400 or 600 times :)). Let me know how it goes !!!

Style it with matching clear vinyl boots and chunky chains for a contrast.
